Abstract

Full Text
The general aim of the research is to determine the effectiveness of the curriculum prepared with the direct method and schematic organizers in teaching science subjects (Skeletal and Respiratory System) to the students with intellectual disabilities. Research subjects are one girl and one boy, who are students in special education classroom of Şeyh Şamil Secondary School in 2015-2016 academic year. Interchangeably adaptive applications model, which is one of the single subject experimental designs, is used in the research. Both subjects have learned skeletal and respiratory topics at the end of the prepared teaching plans designed to teach skeletal system and respiratory system with direct and schematic teaching. Also for both subjects, it is thought that schematic and direct teaching methods did not differ significantly in terms of the effectiveness on teaching skeletal and respiratory system topics. After 15 and 25 days, it is thought schematic and direct teaching methods did not differ significantly in terms of long lasting on teaching skeletal and respiratory system topics.

Abstract
|
Full Text
In this study, the relationships between the university students’ depression levels and their rumination and problem solving skills were examined. The study was carried out with 263 university students aged between 18 and 24 years (63% female, 37% male). In the study, in order to measure the students’ depression, rumination and problem solving skill levels, the “Beck Depression Inventory” adapted by Hisli (1989) into Turkish, the “Ruminative Thinking Style Scale” adapted by Karatepe, Yavuz and Türkcan (2013) into Turkish and the “Problem Solving Inventory” adapted by Taylan (1990) and Şahin, Şahin and Heppner (1993) into Turkish were used in order of administration. As a result of the calculated correlations, a positive significant relationship was determined between the female and the male university students’ depression levels and their rumination levels and again between their problem solving skills and depression levels. Moreover, as a result of the multiple linear regression analysis, it was determined that the students’ rumination levels and problem solving skills predicted their depression levels significantly. The study results were discussed in the light of the relevant literature and some suggestions were made.

Full Text
The present study aimed to develop a scale to determine the awareness of adults about domestic violence. The first study group included a total of 245 undergraduate students; 142 female and 103 male students that attended different departments for exploratory factor analysis, and for confirmatory factor analysis, 285 individuals from different age groups and with different education levels (174 females and 111 males) were included in the second study group. Furthermore, data were collected from 170 individuals to determine their validity based on measure in the third study group. The scale-based validity was determined using the Attitude Scale for Domestic Violence. The item-total score correlations were calculated to determine the distinguishing effect of the items in the 3-point grading type scale, and the difference between item scores for the upper 27% and the lower 27% groups was examined with the t-test. The findings demonstrated that the distinguishing impact of the items in the scale items was adequate. It was determined that the reliability varied between 0.71 and 0.92. The findings established that the 20-item, 4-factors Domestic Violence Awareness Scale could provide reliable and valid results.
