The publication ethics policy of Kalem International Journal of Education and Human Sciences has been prepared by taking into account the guidlines and policies developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics, (COPE) and published in open access. It is of great importance that all stakeholders of the process (authors, readers and researchers, publishers, reviewers and editors) comply with the standards for these ethical responsibilites.
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
The author/s are responsible for the scientific, ethical and legal obligations of the article.
The article should not be taken from another language, edited or translated, and should not have been published in another country at home or abroad, or sent to another journal to be published at the same time.
If the article has more than one author, the author who submitted the article to the journal is considered to be authorized and responsible for the others. Any changes, additions, and deletions on the article should be reported to the editors by e-mail in time by the authorized or corresponding author.
For the publication of master's and doctoral thesis studies, the electronic certificate of the approval of the relevant faculty members or the pdf form scanned by wet signing must be sent to info@kalemacademy.com simultaneously via uploading the article to the site.
If the article is produced from a study or thesis presented at a scientific meeting (symposium, panel…), it can be accepted provided that it is clearly stated in the first submission process. If this situation is not stated in the first submission process, even after the article is approved, this information reaches the journal management; The article is rejected.
The article should be the author's own original work, only those who contribute to the research intellectually should be specified as the author.
In the research, the data is expected to be up to date. If 3+ years have passed since the data has been collected, it is decided that the data is outdated.
The responsibility for the content, methodology, and other issues of the text belongs to the author/s. Author / s are considered to have accepted all of the publishing principles by submitting their work.
The author / s are responsible for the content of the article, the accuracy of the references and citations. A complete and accurate reference should be made to all sources used in the research.
The author / s are responsible for the copyrighted images used in the text. The author(s) should present in the article evidence that they care about ethical principals in the data collection process (such as obtaining their permission to use other people's documents such as scales, questionnaries, photographs). It should be stated in the article that research and publication ethics and copyright regulations for intellectual and artistic works are complied with. If the research was carried out on human and animal subjects, it should be stated that the research was carried out in accordance with international reports, guidlines, etc.
Persons who have a conflict-of-interest relationship with the article for which the application for publication is submitted should be reported to the editors. The reason for this conflict of interest should be disclosed to the editor.
In the evaluation process, raw data may be requested from the author / s, editor, editor or referees. The author / s should send their works with the acceptance of preparing the expected data and information. Data must be retained for 5 years after publication.
Author(s) are expected to indicate wheather their work needs Ethics Committee Permissoin. If necessary, the Ethics Committee Permissoin Document should be uploaded to the system, and the data and the approval numbers should be included in the method section of the article.
If authors notice an error in their work during the review process, they should contact the editor for information, correction or retraction.
The article should comply with the relevant laws and should not threaten the security of any person or institution. In cases where work permits are required, written permission must be obtained from the relevant person or institutions. Otherwise, all material and moral legal responsibilities arising belong to the author or authors.
Ethical Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
The Editorial Board is responsible for the articles published in Kalem International Journal of Education and Human Sciences. It is acted with the awareness that it is a responsibility that requires independent decision making by considering the public interest. Editor's decisions are independent of the publisher and other persons/institutions. The editorial board has the following ethical responsibilities:
It ensures the determination and implementation of journal policies such as publication principles, refereeing and evaluation process, and ethical principles.
In the article publication process, it protects the copyrights of the author/s, takes care of scientific/unethical behavior and similarity.
It provides information request of readers, authors and reviewers in a timely manner with the principle of openness and transparency, and informs the parties of the decisions taken during the evaluation process with their justifications.
It takes responsibility for facilitating the author/s' article uploading and evaluation process and ensuring the continuous development of the journal.
It publishes the writing rules and principles of the journal, the article template, and guiders the stakeholders.
It preserves the records of the articles, correspondence related to the journal, and records in electronic environment.
It supports the freedom of thought and expression, and gives the author/s the right to reply in the evaluated articles.
While making a decision about the articles, the original value of the articles, their contribution to the field/reader/researcher/practitioners, validity and reliability of the research method, clarity of the expression and suitability for the purpose and scope of the journal are taken into consideration.
For the unbiased evaluation of the article, the editors consider whether there is a conflict of or relationship between the reviewers and the author(s). It provides a fair and equitable evaluation process. It carres out the evaluation process in line with the principles of openness, transparency, scientificity and impartiality without any prejudice. It acts only according to the criteria of academic, scientific and social benefit, independent of any characteristics of the authors.
It ensures the protection of unpublished materials, data on subjects or images, personal information and data included in the evaluated studies.
It follows the evaluation process as soon as possible in accordance with the evaluation standards of the journal, and ensures that the disruptions are eliminated and concluded.
Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
In the article evaluation process of Kalem International Journal of Education and Human Sciences, a double-blind peer-review process (author/s reviewers, reviewers do not know the author/s) is operated. Reviewers have the following ethical responsibilities:
Evaluation of only articles related to the field of expertise should be accepted.
Evaluation should be made objectively and confidentially.
Only final versions of evaluated studies may be used after publication.
Regardless of religion, language, race, gender, commercial concerns, etc, an impartial evaluation should be made.
In case the article is not accepted, justification must be reported to the editor
An article which evaluation process has been initiated should not be withdrawn from the process unless there is a very important reason ( health problem, conflict of interest, etc.)
Evaluations should be made withn the framework of academic etiquette, in a consctructive and courteous language, personal comments shold not be made, and comments containing insults and hostility should be avoided.
When it is determined that the reviwers made offensive and/or unscietific comments, they may contacted by the editorial board to review and correct their comments.
The article should be evaluated within the time of the accepted article and with the framework of the ethical responsibilities stated above.
Relations with the Reader
Editors take into account the knowledge, skills and experience expectations of all readers, researchers and practitioners. Care is taken to ensure that the published studies contribute to the reader, researcher, practitioner and scientific literature. Cares the works can meet the reader as soon as possible.
Relations with the Publisher
Kalem Foundation, the publisher of Kalem International Journal of Education and Human Sciences, is a non-profit public education institution that cares the public interest.
The evaluation process of the article is carried out on the journal's website (www.kalemacademy.com) in the KALEM IJEHS. Articles submitted to the editorial board, editorial coordination board or journal by any other means are not accepted as official submissions.
The articles, whose evaluation process is completed, are in the order of publication in the following issues according to the publication program.
If An Unethical Situation is Encountered
In case of an unethical situation regarding an article that does not comply with the ethical principles regarding the editors, reviewers, authors, or an article that is in the evaluation process, that appears to be authoritative, or that has been published in Kalem International Journal of Education and Human Sciences, must be reported by sending an e-mail to info@kalemacademy.com.
