Geography Teacher Candidates’ Attitudes Towards Sustainable Environment

This study was carried out to evaluate geography teacher can-didates’ attitudes towards sustainable environment. In the study, 139 students participated study from Geography Teacher Department of Gazi University, Educational Faculty in 2011- 2012 academic year. The study is based on survey model and Sustainable Environmental Attitude Scale was used as data gathering tool. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics along with arithmetic mean, standard deviation and in analyzing the differences of the participant views; t test, ANOVA and Scheffe tests were used. As a result of the study, geography teacher candidates’ attitudes towards sustainable environment have been found as positive and of high sensibility. Geography teacher candidates’ attitudes towards sustainable environment indicated meaningful difference significance in terms of gender and class level variables.

A Study on The Validity and Reliability of d2 Attention-Tests

The basic aim of this study is to invesitgate the validity and reliability of d2 attention test for the students at age 9-10, which was developed Brickhenkamp (1981) to measure the time-dependent selective attention as well as to statistically identify the psychometric properties of a useful measurement tool for the groups of 9-10 years of age, during which problems with attention is frequently identifed. For this purpose, the researcher, on an individual basis, performed d2 Attention Test on totally 124 students of five elementary schools in the township of Kadıköy, İstanbul. In the study, the focus is on the realtionship between the teachers’ views and d2 Attention Test results, the relationship between Code Sub-Test and d2 Attention Test and the relationship between WISC-R Intelligence Test and d2 Attention Test. The method of test-after-test was used for the reliability-studies. From the results obtained, it can be suggested that the psychometric properties of d2 Attention Test were at an acceptable level and the test could be used for the research to be done in Turkey

Studies on religious education can not be done independently without the human beings to be educated. For that reason, the people who prepare and apply the education should know the systems which the human beings take part in. Otherwise the desired and can not be reached by the applied education. Moreover, it can even cause damages. On the other hand, human being is a learning system. The learning techniques and methods must be in the frame of contemperary scientific structure. In this context, the methods which will be used to understand the nature and Qur'an verses, are very important. Wrong methods will take us to wrong results. The method which we use to understand the given subjects in religious education should be a system. It means that the structure to be used in understanding the complex systems such as nature and Qur'an which are not human-made products is required to be a system.

Investigation of the Effect of Museum Visits on Teacher Canditates’ Thoughts

In this study, effect of a museum visit which was done after having been thought about some scientists in the history Nature and Science History course on teacher candidates’ thoughts regerding Turkish-Islamic scientists and their contributions to science were investigated. By this aim, a field visit to Museum for the History of Science and Technology in Islam was arranged with 25 teacher candidates. Data of the study were obtained by a form where open ended questions were asked and the form was filled by teacher candidates. Data were analyzed by content analysis. According to the findings of the study, it can be concluded that museum visits can help to stiffen the learned knowlegde, to make them more meaningful and also have positive effects on change of thoughts. Besides, visits can also make differences in affective area.

Strengthening the Subject of Modular Arithmetic With the Help of RSA Encryption

The word of Cryptology is originated from the words of “crypto” and “logos” in An? Greek. The word “crypto” means that “secret”and the word “logos” means that “establishing relationship between cause and effect and the field of logical analysis”. Today cryptology is a mathematical science which uses various sciences like electronics, optic and computer and in general it is based on the theory of numerals. The aim of this research is to let students to strengthen their knowledge on the subject of modular arithmetic in mathematics by using RSA encryption method. The activities which are prepared according to RSA encryption method have been studied together with 19 students from 11th grade at a public school at Körfez district of the city of Kocaeli within two course hours. The data obtained from the activity worksheets have analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive analysis method. It is observed that students who faced with many cryptos in their daily lives have the pleasure to learn a different method and the results that they overcame the difficulties that they have about modular arithmetic and they completed the missing points in their knowledge at present.

Purdue Modeline Dayalı Öğretimin Öğrencilerin Yaratıcı Düşünme Becerilerine Etkisi

Bu çalışmada üstün yetenekli öğrencilerin eğitimi için kullanılan Purdue 3 aşamalı model tanıtılarak, Türkiye’deki ortaokul seviyesindeki öğrenciler için 7. sınıf Bilinçli Tüketim Aritmetiği konusuyla ilgili bu modele dayalı geliştirilen aktivitenin etkisini tespit etmek ve bu aktivitenin öğrencilerin yaratıcı düşünme becerilerini geliştirip geliştirmediğini tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Bu etkileri ortaya çıkarmak için İstanbul’un Üsküdar ilçesinde yer alan Capitol İlköğretim Okulu’ndaki 61 öğrenciyle deneysel bir çalışma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bilinçli Tüketim Aritmetiği konusu deney grubundaki 33 öğrenciye Purdue modeline dayalı olarak geliştirilen bir aktivite kullanılarak anlatılmıştır. Aynı konu 28 kontrol grubu öğrencisine konuyla ilgili Milli Eğitim müfredatında yer alan etkinlikler kullanılarak anlatılmıştır. Uygulama öncesi ve sonrası yaratıcılık ölçeği (Ne kadar yaratıcısınız?) iki gruba da uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı kapsamında toplanan veriler Kol-mogorov-Smirnov testi, bağımsız grup t-testi, bağımlı grup t-testi ve Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir ve sonuçlar tablolar halinde gösterilerek yorumlanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar göstermektedir ki, kontrol ve deney grubunun yaratıcılık son test puanları arasında deney grubu lehine anlamlı bir farklılık vardır.
