Abstract
|
Full Text
Science centers are one of the most common examples of informal learning environments. Science center exhibitions designed with specific learning goals facilitate students’ science learning. The effect of utilizing nanotechnology exhibitions, which displayed in the New Horizons exhibition gallery introducing new technologies in a science center located at the central Anatolia, accompanied with the related activities on students’ understanding of the nanotechnology concepts was investigated. Three activities were designed to enhance the knowledge of 109 participating 5th, 6th and 7th grade students, on nanoscience and nanotechnology. In this study, one of these activities was used. Predict-Observe-Explain (POE), which is one of the teaching techniques that make students active and prioritizes conceptual teaching through inquiry, was adopted in this study. In this qualitative study, case study method was adopted and the data were coded to form meaningful categories through thematic analysis. According to the findings of the study, it was observed that after completing the POE activities integrated with the nanotechnology exhibitions, most of the students, demonstrated a transition from conceptualization at the macroscopic level to the conceptualization at the particle level. Therefore, it can be recommended to organize inquiry activities in which science center exhibitions are involved in order to improve understanding of nanotechnology, at a younger age in our country.

Full Text
This study aimed to adapt the Schadenfreude Scale to Turkish and examine the psychometric properties. The Schadenfreude Scale, Dark Triad Scale and Empathy Level Determination Scale were administered to the study groups. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis results confirmed the four-factor structure of the instrument with satisfactory reliability. In the adaptation study of the scale, two different samples were studied. First of all, a sample of 410 people was used for exploratory factor analysis. In the later confirmatory factor analysis study, data were collected from 179 people. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that all of the goodness-of-fit values showed good fit [ꭓ2/sd=1.502, GFI=.940, AGFI=.900, SRMR=.061, CFI=.910, TLI=.873, RMSEA=.053]. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of the scale was found to be .61. There was a statistically significant and positive correlation between Schadenfreude and machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism sub-dimensions of the Dark Triad and a negative relationship between empathy and Schadenfreude. The findings showed that the Turkish version of the scale was a valid and reliable tool for Turkish culture.

Abstract
|
Full Text
In this study, it was aimed to evaluate teachers’ views on conflict resolution strategies applied by primary school administrators in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. As a method for the study, phenomenology was used which is one of the qualitative research methods. While creating the study group, snowball sampling also known as chain referral sampling method was used. The research was obtained by using open-ended and semi-structured questions used for online interviews to convey the relevant literature by scanning. The research was obtained from 25 primary school teachers who volunteered for online interviews. As a result of the research, all of the teachers stated that there were conflicts in primary schools. It can be stated that the answers given regarding the causes of conflict are evaluated under structural factors, personal factors and other sub-themes. The responses given about the conflict resolution strategies implemented by the managers; emerged under the sub-themes of avoidance, domination, integration, compromise and reconciliation. The teachers stated that the administrators generally apply avoidance and domination methods which are not helpful. Based on these findings, in terms of obtaining positive results by applying more powerful conflict resolution strategies, it may be suggested that primary school administrators may refer to effective communication methods
and receive in-service training to improve themselves.

Noncontingent Reinforcement in Decreasing Problem Behaviors: A Systematic Review
Abstract
|
Full Text
Educators use many interventions and strategies applied in decreasing problem behaviors. However, positive hierarchy should be considered while intervening problem behaviors and preventive approach and re-inforcement based strategies should be prioritized. One of these positive interventions is noncontingent reinforcement. Even though noncontin-gent reinforcement has been a popular topic in international literature, there is a huge gap in the topic in Turkish. Considering this need, the researchers in this study aimed to provide information about implemen-tation steps of noncontingent reinforcement and to utilize descriptive analysis of single subject research examined effectiveness of noncon-tingent reinforcement. The researchers reached 62 studies published be-tween 2015 and 2020 in total and 20 studies included in further analysis according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results of the analysis demonstrated that noncontingent reinforcement is an effective proce-dure in decreasing problem behaviors, but, there is need for future re-search to enrich the noncontingent reinforcement literature especially in natural settings.

The Image of Women in Visuals in Turkey and Russia Textbooks
Abstract
|
Full Text
The aim of this research is to reveal the difference in approach towards the image of women in textbooks of two countries. The analysis was carried out in the Life Sciences textbooks taught in Türkiye and The
World Around Us textbooks taught in Russia in primary school in the 2021-2022 academic year. In this direction, the frequency of showing adult women and men in the visual elements in the relevant textbooks, the occupations of male and female figures and the actions in which they are presented were examined. Therefore, qualitative research method was used in the study. The data of the research was obtained through document analysis. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The results show that the rate of women being shown in textbooks taught in Türkiye is higher than that of men. Moreover, women are portrayed in high-status professions. Despite this, some occupations are associated only with men. There are few examples of the division of labor between men and women. In textbook taught in Russia, the rate of women being shown is less than that of men. Occupational diversity of women is also less than that of men. Women are more associated with housework. As a result, it can be said that the presentation of the image of women in terms of gender representations in the textbooks is more successful in the textbooks in Turkey than in textbooks in Russia. However, the textbooks of both countries cannot be said in accordance with the gender equality. In this context, it can be suggested that in the textbooks should be approached in an equal way in the representation of occupational groups and more examples of successful women should be included.
