The subjects of the study consisted of 561 students that received education in Bartın during 2013-2014 education year and selected through an applicable sampling method. The Perceived Support Scale developed by Yıldırım (2004b) as well as the Scale of Motivational Orientations in the Classroom developed by Lepper, Corpus and Iyengar (2005), translated into Turkish by Tulunay-Ateş and Buluç (2015) were used in the study to gather data. SPSS and LISREL software packages were used for analysis of the obtained data. According to the results of the study; the social support perceived by the students was significantly related to the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and the social support positively predicts the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

Abstract
|
Full Text
The purpose of the study was to examine if the level of mentoring functions the school principals perform is a predictor of the level of job satisfaction assistant principals experience. The survey instrument used for this research included “Mentoring Functions Scale” and “Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire”. Relational screening model was used in the study. Universe of the study is comprised of the 611 assistant principals who work in schools affiliated to Ministry of National Education in Bakırköy, Eyüp, Gaziosmanpaşa and Kâğıthane districts of İstanbul province. The scale was used in the web based survey to collect data. Data was collected by sending the web based survey link to the formal e-mail addresses of the schools in the mentioned districts. There were total 402 respondents giving a 65.8% response rate. The obtained data was analyzed and evaluated using IBM SPSS Statistics (v22) and MPlus (v7). Frequency and percentage distributions, mean and standard deviations were calculated. Simple linear correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis were performed. The error margin for the study was .05. According to the results, there is a moderate, positive and significant relationship between the job satisfaction of assistant principals and the level of mentoring functions the principals perform. It is confirmed that the level of job satisfaction the assistant principals experience increase in direct proportion with the level of mentoring functions the school principals perform. Mentoring is found to be predicator of job satisfaction.

Full Text
The aim of the present study is that development of the scales to measure parent reactions for increasing and decreasing students’ study motivation, and also to investigate this scales’ psychometric properties. A total of 235 high school students took part in the present study. 113 of those students (48.1%) were female and 122 of them (51.9%) were male students. In order to evaluate the validity of the developed scales, the Study Motivation Scale was used. Data analysis was carried out with the help of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability and validity analysis. As a result of the study two important scales which were named that Scales of Parent Reactions for Increasing and Decreasing Students’ Study Motivation were obtained. Dimension of Scales of Parent Reactions for Increasing Students’ Study Motivation were as follows: Reactions as autonomy supportive parenting, competence supportive parenting, and rewarding students for studying, building positive study environment and escaping from lowering students’ self-esteem of parents increase the motivation of the students to study. Additionally, Dimension of Scales of Parent Reactions for Decreasing Students’ Study Motivation were as follows: Comparing students with others, exerting pressure/control on students, lowering students’ self-esteem and self-efficiency, punish students for negative academic results.

Full Text
This study analyzes the applicability of a mathematical story named “my fractal tree” during the lessons of fractals on 8th graders’ math class. In order to determine students’ attitudes and practicability of the application, classroom observations and students’ views were collected. To this end, the research was conducted in two different schools where there are advantageous and disadvantageous groups of students in Istanbul province in 2015-2016 academic year. It was conducted with 42 students and 8 math teacher. Students were firstly distributed visual materials about fractals, then they were told about fractals and were explained the story of “my fractal tree” with visual supports. Later on, each student’s opinions in relation to the application was taken in written. After the application was completed, considering the analysis of students’ opinions and the situation during students’ practices, the applicability of mathematical story named “my fractal tree” has been analyzed. Students' and math teachers’ opinions about the mathematical story used in the application were found to be positive. During the application, the students were observed to have watched the activity carefully and have participated it.As a result, it was concluded that the application was appropriate and applicable for 8th grade level.
